A Murder of One (Live) - Counting Crows
There’s a bird that nests inside you,
sleeping underneath your skin.
Yeah, when you open up your wings to speak
I wish you’d let me in.

Counting Crows - Round Here
Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog
Where no one notices the contrast of white on white
And in between the moon and you the angels get a better view
Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right
Brett Dennen’s most recent CD Hope for the Hopeless is fantastic.
In fact, I’m compelled to announce that it is probably on my list of favorite CD’s ever. The first time I saw Dennen, was when he was opening for Ben Folds (who was, in turn, opening for John Mayer. It was a hell of a concert.) He was alone, mostly. And he was fun.
I don’t own a copy of his first CD, but his second is wonderful. It’s light and it’s meaningful and you can tell that the guy put his soul into it because the lyrics drip with importance.
Anyway. You should all consider owning it. And if you don’t want to, you should at least listen to: You Were Wrong About Me and San Francisco. Because those are my favorites.
(Also on my list of favorite CD’s ever: Jason Mraz’s Waiting for my Rocket to Come, Ben Folds Five’s Whatever & Ever Amen, Matchbox Twenty’s Yourself or Someone Like You, and Counting Crows’ August and Everything After.)
